uhm .. the point is?

there are only a handful of supermarkets around Aotearoa and that being,

.Foodtown
.New World
.Countdown
.Woolworths
.Pak N Save

on 25th August, distribution chains for the holding company Progressive which distributes for Foodtown, Countdown and Woolworths went on strike (hah) so there's empty shelves at the supermarkets. The other supermarkets aren't really affected.

Here's a little psychological background on NZ supermarkets, a lot of kiwi's choose to only shop at Foodtown, Countdown, New World or Woolworths because it seems more upmarket and "the lights are brighter" (those were the exact words). I choose to shop at Pak N Save which is 20 minutes drive because most asian shops are around that area and Pak N Save offers better savings and subsidised petrol vouchers. Someone got asked why she did not shop at Pak N Save even though it's cheaper to do so, she said" that's why! it's cheap. only grannies go to Pak N Save!

whoa whoa whoa, you mean people actually look at where you shop for groceries now? means if i was back in KL and i shopped at Giant, i have no class and status symbol? oh my god! what's a guy to do? I have to change my ways! begin the upward climb on the ladder of socialism. become another millionth Paris Hilton.

you know what? no one ever looks at where you shop for groceries! so fucking what if you shop at a trendy supermarket? does the meat taste better or the bread softer? they come from the same fucking butcher and confectionary. One chooses to make the customers pay for all the bright lights whilst the other just wants the customer to be happy. What social garbage is being dished out? hello? canned food is the same everywhere, if one is $1 and the other is $2, isn't it common sense to buy the cheaper one?

Now that the shelves are empty, i'm so fucking amazed that there are still social wannabes refusing to shop at a discount supermarket aka warehouse-carrefour type mega megatron mart. ahhh... the state of imagined status symbol versus the risk of being seen coming out from a discount store!

how ingenius advertising has become, it almost makes me regret leaving that industry.
