someone asked me yesterday why i bet on italy outsmarting ze Germans? well because i bet with my head not my heart. Actually i didn't bet against the Germans, but rather a smart bet. *Draw in 90mins and 0-1 goals scored in 90mins* why?
Germans are a growing youthful outfit, the home advantage played a lot in their progress BUT the italians no matter how 'teruk' they played in the group, last 16 and quarters, they have a very very very strong + experienced backline - held by Cannavaro and defensive midfielder Gattuso. The Germans were never going to outsmart them today or yesterday BUT the germans have something the italians don't! - FIREPOWER. i've been beside myself thinking why Lippi won't forgive and forget about the Inzhagi fallout. Inzhagi is way more prolific than Luca Toni upfront as we could see when Del Piero subbed in. So i expected a midfield battle for 90 mins as both sides play with attacking flair with good defensive lines thus the draw bet*. NOTE: the German defensive line missing Torsten Frings looked a little shaky with Tim Borowski in the defensive midfield position. And why 0-1 goals? because i know neither team will relent.
So onto the next semis, Portugal v France. The frenchies or les bleus hold a special sentiment for me as when i was working at KHK, during the Euro 96 clash i got drawn France in the office football pool. Even though they didn't win (Germany did) but i followed all their games since and it sort of became my team. So fast forward to tomorrow, what is the smart bet for this match? both teams have very defensive records so i'm predicting a low scoring match for 90 mins. France though in a resurgence is still goal shy, Portugal have no goal scorers (pfftt pauleta? who?) and relies on deco,figo and crybaby C.Ronaldo. so yeah, will tell you guys the outcome of my bets once the match finishes.

did les bleus deserve to win? NO. the man holding the line was definetly Lilian Thuram. 34 years of age and still managing to keep C.Ronaldo at bay, damn makes me feel like a rotting piece of meat, sitting on a couch watching football. eventhough portugal managed to fall like 2nd rate actors in the box, they are still missing a goalscorer; which will come into play for today's match - Germany v Portugal.
On to previous smart bets - i had money down on Maniche to score 1st (fun bet), 90 mins draw and 0-1 goals scored. So as you can see, i've only actually hit one. which brings me to say that as a pre-ritual for the 3rd placing and final, i am not going to jinx it by predicting my bets here on dailybirdpoo.
