heh. here's a lesson for students and lecturers alike. when a diversion of question happens i.e. above, it is not that the lecturer doesn't know how to answer, but it's more to calm a situation.
i believe that xxxxx wasn't undermining the lecturer but heck she'd (the lecturer) better be prepared the next time. if you're organising the exhibition, how can you not know how many students are exhibiting. it reflects that the decision was ad-hoc. and when asked why are year one exhibiting? - her answer "to make the MA program visible". hmm shades of LUCT here.
i understand why year one students are exhibiting and clearly it's too iron out problems that i'll face later on in year two. i'm not bitching about exhibiting my work. sure it takes time to prepare logistics, space and equipment something xxxxx wasn't too happy about i guess.
the thing that irks me, wasn't xxxxx's laziness but the 2nd lecturer in there DID NOT come to the aid of the lecturer in question. whether you're beginning to teach or a seasoned veteran, you always back your colleagues up! and iron issues out in private. you might not agree with each other but appearing united in front of a class is far more comforting for students though they might like to see a squabble or two. However on contary to that, there are some principles which may leave you to fend on your own i.e. biasness (:P), favourtism and racism of course.
do i think i can do a better job? i'm pretty sure i can. the fact that i don't have a DR in front of my name, means i don't know how to use words like "rhizomatic" in a sentence and you probably have a better chance of understanding me.
note: not all PHD graduates are confusing though.
here's a phrase by a layman professor.
Practical work not making words makes a vision. You can be the best theorist but you're driving your project looking through the rear window; constantly reading and evaluating past work. what happens when you drive using the rear window? you'll meet an accident. SO LOOK AHEAD and NOT TALK ABOUT THE PAST
best quote i've heard so far, now if only they practiced it!
