1st Anniversary

hello birdwatchers,

it's hard to believe, a year ago i set out to this land under the white cloud to fulfill 2 months of residency tenure but ended up staying for almost a year ( i went back to Malaysia for 3 months). i started dairybirdpoo (now called dailybirdpoo) to chart my adventures and experiences in this land; looking back at the archives, there's laugther, sadness, loneliness, excitement, embrassment, stupidity but most of all memories. Many asked me, what the fuck is dairybirdpoo? in new zealand you naturally think of cows/sheep but i thought of new zealand frisian cows (dairy) and how as a kid, i use to drink lots of (explains the size,huh?), so where does bird come in? the kiwi bird (almost extinct, thanks to the maoris') plays a significant role in new zealand identity, long before the fern you had the kiwi bird. so we got metaphor kiwi drinking milk and poo? yeah it's a metaphor for crap referring the posts that write, which sometimes are a little crap. so there you have it dairybirdpoo. For the most part, it worked, it didn't matter if anyone understood what it meant as long as i did.

i had initially not planned for a name change till some referer links came back as dailybirdpoo, and i thought well that works even better - sounds like a newspaper but more like daily kiwi shit (in tribute to ignorant views about people in general). dailybirdpoo is much more than an experience now, it's how a dickhead like me tries to blend in with social norm, discover day by day, how ignorant i had been to other world cultures and in the process discover how ignorant people are to my culture.

i look at the archives and see a complete circle - June 2004 to June 2005. has it been that long? time flies. enjoy. crap.
