Wednesday Words of the Day

I learn new words every Wednesday, as such who am i not to share with everyone. Today's 3 words in practice are ....

Phenomenological
as explained in class - describing the world.

From dicitionary.com - A philosophy or method of inquiry based on the premise that reality consists of objects and events as they are perceived or understood in human consciousness and not of anything independent of human consciousness.

From Merriam-Webster online - the study of the development of human consciousness and self-awareness as a preface to philosophy or a part of philosophy

Hermeneutical
as explained in class - interpretating descriptions

From dictionary.com - Interpretive; explanatory.

Bricoleur
From Dictionary.com - no entries found

Ok ... let me see if i can hermeneutic today's post (clever, eh?). Today's class is basically how i felt when i try to bullshit a situation to some students. 2 things can happen here, the students believe it or you fall flat on your face. i stopped bullshitting students after my 1st week 1st year lecturing. Every academic bullshits because they ae forced into a situation where the whole class is looking and expect an answer from them. Nowadays i just say "i don't know", doesn't make me lesser than who i am. So a lot of questions were asked today, how is methodology helping my research? do designers, visual artists practice methodology? the answer given - NO. right ..so next question raised " Why the FUCK are we reading about grounded theory, emphrical, heuristics etc?" answer given - because we as designers need to start look toward methodology to help us better design <--- bullshit sensor is beeping like crazy, here's my explaination for this (we are guinea pigs, if this lecture series doesn't work, they'll just scrap it next semester)

You see a lot of research methodology is based on social sciences and not arts. We need to understand the methodology used and use it to come with a exegesis.

exegesis
From Dictionary.com - Critical explanation or analysis, especially of a text.

which another words mean - find a topic, apply research method and analyse the result, see that didn't hurt, did it?

it took me 6 weeks to figure this shit out.

Back to a more humane post, i was at Ponsonby on Tuesday (Ponsonby is like the "Bangsar" of Auckland) and in a art gallery for my reading group. i was far more interested at what was going on outside rather than in furniture design and i saw a black stopped by a cop at a bus stand. They were talking and looking at the car for about 30 minutes. They obviously were in trouble as more cops showed up and the passengers were loitering aroung the stand. So i finish the reading group (i thought i would have never ended) and headed to the bus stand ( i had to take the bus back to Uni, yeah!?!). I was standing at the bus stand pole and the cops were searching a guy (probably 18 yr old and shoeless like all kiwis). A pair cuffs came out and i heard the familar sound of cuffs gears interlocking like on cop movies; Shit the 18yr old is arrested and still shoeless. i was thinking "fuck, i could use this in my project" ... anyways, he got shoved in the car, took about 4 cops to settle the issue (i have no idea why he was arrested, maybe involvement with robbery or something like that.) because one car had an extra passenger, another cop had to accompany him in the back seat, as a result left his car at the bus stop. i had vision streaming through my head now, if i had a dv cam now, i'd call my actors, shoot a scene where a car rams into the cop car. BEEEPPPP ... the bus has arrived.

i have a week off week after, not really looking forward to it, why? it means i have to get cracking on my literature review. FUCK.
